Jockey Club launches “With You. Then. Now. Always.” campaign to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR

On 17 June, The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced the launch of its “With You. Then. Now. Always.” campaign to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Through a wide range of initiatives the campaign aims to instil positive energy in the community and to thank community partners for helping the Club deliver on its purpose and promise over the past 25 years.

Club Chairman Mr Philip Chen said: “This year we mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. As we reflect on the outstanding achievements of our city over the past 25 years, we also look forward with confidence to Hong Kong’s and the country’s future prosperity. The Club too has made great strides over the past 25 years, both in its world-class racing and in its charitable support for the community. The Club has, and always will be, dedicated to the betterment of our society.”

Club Chief Executive Officer Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said: “Looking back over the past 25 years, the Club sees much to be proud of in all that Hong Kong has achieved. During that time the Club has been able to increase its contribution to the community via its integrated business model while becoming a world-leader in the sport of horse racing. The Club looks forward to contributing even more in the years ahead, not least through developing a world-class equine industry in the Greater Bay Area.”

The “With You. Then. Now. Always.” campaign underlines how the Club has grown with the community, becoming a world leader in horse racing, one of Hong Kong’s most iconic and global brands, as well as one of the ten largest charitable donors in the world.

The dedicated campaign website launched on 17 June highlights key moments in the Club’s and Hong Kong’s development over the past 25 years, as well as compelling people stories spotlighting the Club’s contribution to society. Racing fans can also visit the website to relive racing highlights of the last 25 years and vote for their most memorable racing moments.

In addition to the campaign website, a programme of activities will showcase the Club’s contributions to Hong Kong since 1997, including:

  • The 25th Anniversary Hong Kong Reunification Raceday on 1 July to commemorate the establishment of the HKSAR. The feature race will be the Hong Kong 25th Anniversary Reunification Cup.
  • A special Mark Six Hong Kong Reunification Snowball draw.
  • The Drago Cavallo art showcase by artist Simon Ma and students, which will see them embark on a positivity trail across Hong Kong, exploring how the Club has grown together with the community.
  • The “With You. Then. Now. Always.” exhibition, which will open to the public at Tai Kwun on 2 July before touring various locations across the city. With 43 pieces of Drago Cavallo on display and a series of interactive activities, the exhibition underpins the progress made by the community in the past 25 years with the Club’s support.

The Club is committed to building stronger communities together, and it is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax and charity support for the community.

In December 2021, the Club announced an approved donation of up to HK$630 million to the HKSAR Government to celebrate the occasion and organise some 60 programmes spanning five key areas of arts and culture, sports, caring for the community, green living and international conferences.

Chief among the programmes are the distribution of “Celebrations for All” gift packages to around 300,000 grass-roots families; a series of large-scale exhibitions under the “Hong Kong Jockey Club Series”, including the highly anticipated dinosaur fossil skeletons showcase, “The Big Eight - Dinosaur Revelation”; the “Summer · Harbour” programme featuring summer-themed art installations and other fun activities at six designated sites on the harbourfront; and more.

Funded by a HK$3.5 billion donation from the Club’s Charities Trust, the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) will open to the public on 2 July. The HKPM will play a vital role in fostering Hong Kong’s arts and culture development while also strengthening Hong Kong’s connection with the Mainland and the rest of the world.
