The Hong Kong Jockey Club

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society.

The Club was founded in 1884 as a membership club to promote racing and riding. It has been providing charitable support to Hong Kong since 1915. In 1971, professional racing was introduced. In 1973, in response to the growth of illegal gambling, the Club was licensed to provide off-course betting, and in 1975 to operate what became the Mark Six lottery. In 2003, to address the significant demand for football betting, the Club was further authorised to introduce a licensed football betting service.

Today the Club’s integrated business model of world-class racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution, generates economic and social value for the betterment of our society.

Hong Kong racing, with the support of the Club’s horsing-owning members, is now world-class, with Hong Kong home to some of the world’s top horses, despite having only 0.7% of the world’s thoroughbred racehorses. The Club’s responsible and best-in-class sports wagering and lottery services help meet public demand, channeling it away from illegal operators. And through its tax contribution, charitable donations and proactive community engagement, the Club helps improve the quality of life of Hong Kong people.

Committed to global excellence and giving back to society, the Club is always “riding high together for a better future” with the people of Hong Kong.
