Le French May

From now until June, the more than 150 presentations of Le French May Festival 2018 promise nothing short of a cultural expedition, transcending time and territorial boundaries. Under the theme Tributes, this year’s festival embraces a wide array of programmes that explore the timeless masterpieces of the East and the West, but with a creative spin by modern artists.

From a homage to the pioneers of the French and international Pop Art movement in the 1960s and 70s, a reinterpretation of the all-time classic opera, Georges Bizet’s Carmen, and a contemporary version of the original 1945 ballet masterpiece Les Forains, Ballet Urbain, to the world premiere of The Butterfly Lovers’ sand art and piano performance, this cultural extravaganza sponsored by the Club’s Charities Trust offers something for everyone. In addition to supporting the various artistic offerings, the Charities Trust’s HK$12.88 million contribution also underwrites a series of dedicated Jockey Club Community Outreach and Arts Education Programmes that will help Hong Kong people appreciate art by not only attending the programmes, but also by bringing art outside of the cultural venues and into public spaces to live up to the Club’s commitment of making art accessible to all.
